As a jewelry designer I can completely understand that you let yourself be inspired by other things. Be it art, music, nature, fashion or antiques and vintage stuff. I get a lot of my ideas like this as well. What I don’t understand is big brands not being able to afford to have their own things designed but to completely copy old designs.
I found this by coincidence, the antique brooch from ebay (left; presumably from the 20ies, made in England; c.500,- Euro) has been online there for ages. There is even a second brooch like this (not pictured, around 390,- Euro). Now Valentino SS12 offers these monkey earrings (right, c.550,- Euro). A similar uninspired rip-off like the one I’ve posted earlier.
Update: Another vintage brooch like this on etsy for only $98.00.

The Crystal Chandeliers of Hans van Bentem. 15 of these chandeliers have been commissioned for the Dutch Escher Museum. Van Bentems website, that I find rather irritating, and more pictures of his chandlier designs here.

A coincidence, or not…? Some time ago I was lucky enough to discover a 1942 edition of “The Story of Ferdinand” in a second-hand store. This was the first German version of the children’s book, published by Verlag Amstutz, Herdeg & Co, Zurich/Leipzig. The logo of the publisher stroke me as familiar…it reminds me immensely of the Anya Hindmarch logo!
Were they digging in the past, just like Bottega Veneta…?

And there it is - as part of this jaw-dropping collection: i found the antique original of the Bottega Veneta brooch that now turns out a total rip-off!! This is indeed disappointing, they could at least have altered it a little bit…!
